One page per job
Each tool on Nearlimit does one thing for one destination. The Discord page knows Discord's caps. The passport page knows the State Department's size range. The PowerPoint page knows that email limits count the encoded message, not just the file. You pick the page for where the file is going, and the limit is already set.
Every tool shows the result before you download it: the output size, and whether it is under the cap you chose. If a file cannot fit at a usable quality, the page says so and tells you what would work instead, such as trimming a video to a stated number of seconds.
Nothing is uploaded
All processing happens in your browser. Video is encoded with the encoder built into Chrome, Edge and Safari. Images are redrawn on a canvas. PDFs, PowerPoint decks and EPUBs are opened and rewritten in memory. Your file never reaches our servers, which matters for passports, leases, tax forms and anything else you would rather not hand to a stranger.
That also means limits depend on your device. A computer handles a long 4K video easily; an older iPhone may run out of memory on the same file. Each page states its own limits plainly rather than promising what the browser cannot do.
The caps these tools are built around
Discord: 20 MB per file on a free account as of August 2026, 50 MB with Nitro Basic, 500 MB with Nitro. WhatsApp: 16 MB for a video sent as media, 2 GB as a document. Gmail: 25 MB per message after encoding, which works out to about 18 MB of real attachment. Outlook.com: 20 MB. Work email on Exchange: 10 MB by default. Job and application portals: most often 2 MB. US passport photos online: 54 KB to 10 MB. Instagram video: 3 to 60 seconds per clip.
Limits change. Where a service publishes its limit, the page names it and when it was checked. Where there is no single standard, as with MLS photo rules, the page says that too and gives real examples instead of a made-up spec.
Why the tools aim under the cap
A file one byte over a limit is rejected as surely as one twice the size, and different apps count megabytes differently. Nearlimit treats 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes and targets a few percent under the cap, so the result clears both readings and survives an encoder that overshoots.
